I Feel Like a River in Full Flow

A Poem by Cyrus Kangarlu / Azarakhsh

Cyrus Kangarlu / Azarakhsh

I feel like a river in full flow, though sometimes my heart weeps in sorrow,

Yet from the depths of this confinement, a dawn of reunion will arise.

Even if you are the king of the tale, you remain enclosed by measure and compulsion,

For the heart yields to the command of love, not to the cold decree of a court.

I am not the error of a passing moment, my dear, nor dust settled upon a wall,

I am that very drop that knows where the road to the sea must lead.

Though I may become earth at the hour of farewell, my roots remain firm in hope,

Even if the cloud should abandon me, the sky will still hold me in abundance.

I may depart, but the heart does not die; knowingly, I have entrusted it to tomorrow,

Love, even if only a trust placed in our hands, survives beyond the lovers’ walls.

However blessed your lifetime may have been, gratitude for it remains alive within me,

And though this moment is difficult, the lamp of patience can still bring the lovers’ spring.

If there is a wound, tomorrow is its balm; if pain remains, it may yet become my companion,

Though the night without you is long, morning will come—this is the Ahuric vision.

A day without you is night, I know,

Yet with the memory of you, how wakeful the dawn becomes.
